The Department of Civil Engineering FCTUC is a reference school in teaching and research in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering in Portugal which began operating in 1972.

The DEC-FCTUC develops close international collaboration with higher education institutions as MIT, Imperial College, University of Cambridge, the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Technical University of Delft and the University of Toronto.

In 2014 the DEC saw two of its courses to obtain the best result so far in the prestigious QS TOP UNIVERSITIES rankings where the course of Civil Engineering figure in the top 150 and the course of Environmental Engineering appears in the top 200 Specializations The Department of Civil Engineering FCTUC is a reference school in teaching and research in Civil and Environmental Engineering in Portugal.
