Javier Gutiérrez Puebla

Javier Gutiérrez Puebla is Full Professor of Human Geography at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, director of the Research Group tGIS (Transport, Infrastructure and Territory) and director of the Department of Geography. He specializes in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), transport and urban studies. He has written more than 100 scientific publications (about 30 articles JCR Q1), with more than 4,000 citations in Google Scholar. He has directed numerous research projects. He has taught at the Complutense University and other universities in undergraduate and master's degree studies, particularly in the field of GIS and transportation geography.

José Gomes Mendes was born in Braga in 1962. He was the Assistant Secretary of State and Environment of the XXI Constitutional Government between November 26, 2015 and October 15, 2018. He is currently the Chairman of the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance, a global alliance of countries, cities and leading companies in climate action in the field of mobility and transportation. He has a degree in Civil Engineering, Doctorate and Aggregate in Territory Planning from the University of Minho. He is a professor of Regional and Urban Systems at the University of Minho, where he held the post of Vice Rector for the Valorisation of Knowledge between 2009 and 2015. As a researcher, he developed activities in the 1990s at Clark University and South Dakota State University, USA. He completed executive programs in management and innovation at the University of San Francisco School of Management (USF Silicon Valley Immersion), Harvard University Performance), and ISCTE / INDEG (Mini MBA). He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of AvePark Parque de Ciência e Tecnologia SA, Chairman of the Management of the University-Company TecMinho Association, Administrator of Portus Park - C & T and Incubator Regional Council of the North, member of the Board of Founders of the Serralves Foundation and national representative at the European Council of Civil Engineers. He has held positions as consultant and evaluator in the following international entities: European Commission (DG Research, Brussels); Education, Audiovisual and Cultural Executive Agency (EACEA, Brussels); European Training Foundation (ETF, Turin); Natural Environment Research Council (NERC, UK). He lectured at the following international universities: University of Bologna (Italy), Silesian University of Technology (Gliwice, Poland), University of São Paulo - EESC (Brazil) and Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique). He was President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Professional Football League. He is the author of about 100 articles, books, studies and projects in the area of ​​urban and regional systems.

 

António Pais Antunes 

António Pais Antunes is a Professor at the University of Coimbra, where he has developed all his academic career, and the Deputy Director of CITTA – Research Centre for Territory Transports and Environment (research unit of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology).

He holds a Licentiate Degree in Civil Engineering by the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Applied Sciences by the Catholic University of Louvain.

He has been a Planning Director at the Centro Region Coordination and Development Commission (1983/85), a Visiting Scholar at Princeton University (1997/98), and Invited Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (2009/10) and a Visiting Professor at MIT (2013/14).

Over his career, he supervised 23 PhD theses, was involved in 25 research projects and actions and authored over 200 publications in the fields of Transport and Spatial Planning.

He is a member of the Operating Committee of the MIT Portugal Program and has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Singapore MIT Alliance for Science and Technology – Future Urban Mobility area (2009/15).

 

Fernando Seabra Santos

Fernando Seabra Santos - Graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra (1977), he completed his PhD in the Institut National Polytechique de Grenoble, in the area of Physical Oceanography. Professor of the FCTUC since 1978, he also taught at the Université Scientifique et Médicale de Grenoble, at the Physics Department of the University of Lisbon, at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble and at the University of Brasilia. He was Director of the Civil Engineering Department of FCTUC between 1990 and 1994. He was the first coordinator of the Degree in Environmental Engineering at FCTUC. He was Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra between 1998 and 2003 and Rector of the same University between 2003 and 2011. In these functions, he was the origin of the creation of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute, the College of Arts, the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities and the Museum of Science, having launched in April of 2003 and coordinated during eight years the candidacy of the University of Coimbra to Patrimony of the Humanity. He was also president of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities between 2007 and 2010 and in the same period, member of the Council of the Association of European Universities. He was a founding member of the Vitor Jara Brigade, having participated in the group's activities from 1975 to 1988. In 2011 he released the CD "Hoje" with lyrics and songs of his own and which featured special guest appearances such as Camané, Cristina Branco, Filipa Pais, Luís Represas, Manuel Freire, Martinho da Vila, Paula Oliveira, Sérgio Godinho and Vitorino. In September 2012 he published the book "The fourth mission of the University: university internationalization in the knowledge society". In November of the same year he created the company Friday, Science and Engineering of Leisure, Lda with the objective of designing, constructing and marketing nautical devices with a high innovation component.

 

António Nelson Rodrigues da Silva

António Nelson - Deputy Director - Term of office 04/05/17 to 23/02/19

Graduated in Architecture, from Santa Úrsula University, he obtained in the EESC the titles of master, doctor and free-teacher in Transport Engineering. He is currently a full professor at the School, having started his career in 1990 after a brief experience as a private college professor. During his years in which he was linked to USP, he completed three internships abroad: at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the United States, at the University of Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, and at the University of Minho in Portugal. He also held several administrative positions: deputy coordinator and post-graduate coordinator, deputy director and director of the Center for Educational Technology for Engineering, deputy chief and chief of the Department of Transport Engineering and vice-mayor of the USP campus in Sao Carlos.
